Why, Hello.
Welcome to juliaipsa and thank you for your virtual company, whether you are of the lurking or active commenting disposition, or even if you're just clicking through for fourteen brief seconds and never make another visit. I fancy seeing you here. Really.
First things first, you should know that there is no particular theme to this blog. This is a space where I write about anything on my mind. I confess that I involuntarily dedicate a disproportionate amount of my mental bandwidth to good eats and my Korean-American heritage, so a lot of juliaipsa content is related in one way or another to those parts of me.
On the etymology of this blog's name, juliaipsa, here it is: Julia is my given name. My mother, whom I call uhm-mah (you might see it written in the Korean as 엄마 depending on my mood), found Juliette far more charming a name, but cringed at the thought of how the starry-eyed Capulet ended her life. And so Julia it was. Ipsa is Latin for the female singular reflexive pronoun "herself," used here for emphasis. And thus, I named this chronicle juliaipsa because it is, well, about Julia herself.
I live in the borough of Manhattan in New York City. You wouldn't believe how jealous people are about this fact. As a natural homebody, I disappoint a lot of people when they find out that I live in this amazing center of the universe and yet, my dream on Friday nights is to nosh on pizza while watching some small-budget film that finally came through my queue at the NYPL. The library, my friends, is not just for the toddler and geriatric members of our community.
I can be reached at juliaipsa [at] gmail [dot] com.
