A Father's Tip: Little Miss Sunshine
When young daughter Olive orders waffles and ice cream for breakfast at a diner during a pit stop on their long drive to California for Olive to compete for the Little Miss Sunshine crown, her father does the unthinkable: he gambles with his daughter's self-esteem. Despite his wife's objections, he frankly explains to his daughter that the fat in the ice cream would transfer from the ice cream into her body making her fat.
I know what you're thinking because my reaction was one of utter shock, too. You're probably thinking that the entire movie was just as horrendous as the message portrayed in this scene. But you couldn't be more wrong. You must view the film yourself before making any comments, but take my word for it: "Little Miss Sunshine" is a wonderfully executed guh-rate comedy. I walked out of the theatre not only with residual smiles from laughing, but actually feeling good from the story line.
Make an effort to catch this independent film if you're in desperate need of a good chuckle. It WILL make you laugh - even when Greg Kinnear scolds his daughter for eating ice cream. Trust me.
