Spankin' Good Spanikopita
I was quite pleased when a friend brought over some frozen spanikopita tonight. Hooray for leftovers from New Year's Eve bashes!

Greek food is crazy good. I'm not too fond of stuffed grape leaves (too vinegary) or some of the sharper feta cheeses, but the fresh grilled fishes, yogurt-based sauces, pickled vegetables, breads, and salads are all yum yum yum. If you find yourself hungry and roaming the streets of New York's Upper West Side, get thee to Kefi Restaurant. It's a casual Greek place owned by a notable restaurateur that attracts families, groups, and singles alike. The atmosphere is simple and casual but keep in mind that their downstairs seating area can turn downright rowdy during peak times (only because kids can be disruptive), so be seated upstairs if possible. The food is consistent, satisfying, and authentic. Their appetizers alone are worth the visit. To the gastronomically ignorant: sweetbread is not suitable for vegetarians.
