Tossing

I'm looking around at my tiny apartment and all I see is useless crap eating up precious square footage.  My closet is -very disturbingly- beginning to resemble my sister's.  No, it's not that it's full of nice clothes; it's that I can't close the door.  Too much dirty laundry spilling out across the threshold.  How unladylike.  The six square feet of free space at the base of my bed is littered with bags brimming with clothes headed to the Salvation Army.  And this week, after finding the living room bookshelf a new home in Brooklyn, I'm left with the thankless task of purging nearly a hundred twenty-five books that called that shelf home.

A hundred and twenty-five.  Cripes.

It's time to get serious.
I hate the fact that I don't have enough space for my few belongings.  This nonsense stops right here.  Today.  I'm rearranging, I'm tossing, I'm making room.

  1. Hey! Didn't I give you 'The Best Things to do in New York'? And this is the thanks I get - HMPH!

  2. Dang. You had me going there for a second. Soeur might want to keep it, actually. She had used it herself when she first arrived and has since thrown it at every out-of-town guest that's stayed with us.

But, just this morning, I was flipping through the easy-to-carry New York Map Guide you had gifted to check out a West Village walking tour for when the weather cools down. That one, so light and thin and compact, is one of a handful I'm keeping, thank you very much!

  3. Good for you. One of my goals when it cools off is to go through my room, item by item, and really determine if I'm really going to use it, wear it, read it. The stuff has got to go. The dust is overwhelming. The clutter is overwhelming. However, it's 110+ degrees in Vegas right now so this is an October/November/December project.

    1. It was supposed to hit 100 yesterday here - which is why I didn't step foot outside my apartment all day. Interestingly, I managed just fine w/out the a/c and just a fan! Yay for a slightly greener earth.

About the seasonal timing of this whole spectacular cleaning process - I clearly did this on a whim. If only I were as smart as you. D'oh.

  4. Well... If you need a hand in getting rid of some books I would be happy to take some off of your hands. Just sayin'. :)

    1. Awesome! What with all that space you have in spacious Brooklyn, it would be great if you could give some of them a new home.

My sister just informed me that she might not want to part with some of these (which is beyond me b/c then, um, WHY did I go through the trouble of getting rid of the bookshelf???). I want to get them out of here asap, but it so depends on what she decides. Will keep you posted for sure.
