Ho-Hum
I fully anticipated that this would be a crazy week. It's only Tuesday and it hasn't disappointed yet, but a part of me wishes that it had. I don't like being plastered to the computer non-stop, with my only rests between spent running up and down subway stairs or barreling along city blocks to the next event on my calendar. On the other hand, I'm a better person busy than not.

Remnants of a Sunday. My place. NYC.
2:15 pm. Sunday. 23 Sept.
With the delicious arrival of chilly September evenings, that powerful, seasonal urge to bake has returned. I set a happy tune on repeat and broke away from my computer screen for a moment last night to throw together some cookies. But even then, my mind was preoccupied - my cookie dough refused to bind together. The oven beeping at 375 behind me, I peered hopelessly into the bowl of loose crumbs. What had I done wrong? Then I caught sight of a lone brown egg perched quietly on the counter. How had I missed that? They say never add the egg as the last step, but with the thought of tossing the whole batch too painful to swallow, in it went. The cookies didn't rise as much as they should, but they look and taste just fine. It turns out that bending the rules a little isn't so bad.

This tableau looks like an ideal way to spend some quiet moments together with a buddy. :)
ReplyDeleteHa. I wish. If that ever happens, I'll need an equally large box of milk chocolate squares. These were all dark!
