That's Going On *The List*
I have a list. On that list is a random assortment of words, phrases, and idioms that I heard mid-conversation and had absolutely no idea what they meant. I don't know if this occasionally happens to you as an adult, but just in case it doesn't, allow me to fill you in: it's bewildering. As an individual with a fair vocabulary level, it throws me off every single time it happens. I'll immediately reach out with my hand, rest it on your shoulder, look you directly in the eye, and insist that you repeat the word(s), spell it, use it in a sentence, give an example, and only then may you continue your story.
Tonight, there is a new addition to this list, an expression I have never heard before today, taken from an e-mail I just received where the last line read:
"It is colder than a witches' [sic] tit out there..."
Y'all, are you on the floor yet? Because you're just as immature as moi?
I just walked in from out there and the wind chill is indeed a nippy single (that's one) degree at this very moment in New York City. There was no pun intended there, but I'm having a revelation as I type this: Could it be that the term "nippy" is a derivative of "nipples?"
Hahahahaha
ReplyDeletegoodness, your vocab bank is far from just "fair." if your level is fair, mine is in serious need of urgent help.
