A Good Motto: SEX + COMFORT

I pretty much live in flats.  With the concrete streets I pound every day, mine get beat up pretty quickly.  It's no bueno.  Tired of parting with pair after pair every few short months, I started shelling out for slightly nicer flats last year.  It was worth it.  They're more comfortable, look nicer, and last longer.  More importantly, they make me feel good.

I recently discovered Matt Bernson {+}.  Hold one of his handcrafted shoes in your hand and you'll delight in how substantial and lovely they are.  His flats have made a wonderful first impression on me, someone who usually scoffs at these kinds of things.  Carved several times over into the rubber soles in tiny, all caps, block letters are: SEX + COMFORT.  It's an odd motto for a shoe brand, but I bet reading that made you crack a smile.  I love the cheekiness.  If something so trivial as the words on the underside of these shoes make me chuckle so, maybe I should consider filling my closet with Matt Bernsons.  Because you know what?  I deserve to surround myself with things that make me smile.  We all do.

  1. Thanks for sharing. I love flats too. Can't get enough of them. I have a question, related to "pretty things", what kind of sunglasses do you wear? It's hard for me to find any that fit my Korean face (high cheeks, no nose)...they either slide down or rest on my cheeks or the worst are tight on the side of my head.

    1. I have yet to find a pair that doesn't do all 3 of what you describe; the best I've managed is 2 out of 3. I'm very comfortable in the Tom Ford sunglasses I'm wearing here. They're wide and don't slide down, but they do rest on my cheeks. I think this style is called the Whitney? My sister would know, but she's out of the country (these are hand-me-downs from her and I am the last person you want to ask about luxury goods b/c I'm so clueless about this stuff).

If you haven't already, I'd say give this style a shot. I can honestly say that these are the most comfortable sunglasses I've ever worn.

    2. To be clear, I'm suggesting that you give the wide, bug eye sunglass style a shot, not a Tom Ford number (too pricey to justify when trying something new out). But I will mention that this pair has lasted forever. I think it's going on four years.

    3. I would have never guessed that style. I always look for ones with nose pieces which limit your selection. I found them half priced on Amazon. Thanks!

    4. I've steered clear of nose pieces b/c of the imprint and the discomfort. It's sort of like a lose-lose when we have our genes. An entrepreneur should come up with Asian-friendly eyewear. Hmm...

  2. I tell my husband that all the time. I want to know what they're wearing in Seoul. My son, being half Korean, a quarter Swedish & a quarter German has my lovely nose/bridge/check bones. He can wear little kid Oakley's but I can't spend the $80 on sunglasses for a four and half year old.

    1. I totally understand. For the record, though, little kid Ray Bans are hotness. Terribly cute over button noses.

  3. am addicted to flats. running has made sure of this over the past 2 years. I'd buy these, sight unseen, for the box alone.

    1. About the box - it is so sturdy that I actually took a double-take the first time I picked it up. I think I could use it for storage, it's so solid.
