Kiss Me: I'm Stubby

My brother's teenage lack of sensitivity never ceases to fascinate me. Case in point: last night.

He'll often stay up late playing games after I turn in for the night. If I'm half awake by the time he finishes, he won't bother turning off the big lamp in the living room - which I deliberately leave turned on so that he won't ruin his eyes staring at the computer or television screen. As he walks away I'll yell for him to trek his hienie back to the living room and turn off the light. Here's how it all went down last night:

JULIA: Aren't you going to turn off the light?
BRO: Why don't you just turn it off? You can just reach your hand out and turn it off.
JULIA: My arm is not 4 feet long, so no, I can't just lean over and turn it off, and you're the last person leaving the room so common courtesy says it's your responsibility - especially when I'm trying to fall asleep!
BRO: It's not hard to reach the light. You just have stubby arms like hyung*.
JULIA:

Uh-huh. You read right. Stubby arms. The know-it-all teenager went there. It's not my fault that our brother and I inherited the stocky genes from our father and he and the other sister were blessed with normal proportions from our mother. Imagine that: getting slack for my faulty physical attributes even in my own home!

*Korean term for older brother.
