Coney Island

You would never have guessed that this past weekend was in the middle of a Manhattan August; it was delightful to be out and about with a cool breeze dancing around your ankles.  Soeur heard the tragic news that Coney Island's rides will be torn down after this summer and that the entire island will be renovated in the coming year.  Never to miss a photo op, we took the Q to the famously fun island only to learn that...there ain't nuttin' there to write home about.  There was a guy shouting, "Come see the freak!  Come hit the freak!  What's wrong with you people?  Don't you want to see the freak?" at one of the boardwalk attractions.  'Nuff said.  I forgot how ghetto boardwalk entertainment can be despite the merits of a cloudy breezy day on the beach.  The highlight of our day was not the soggy funnel cake or getting caught in the rain; rather, it consisted of Nathan's wieners (he he, I just wanted to use that word) and a large batch of their 1500-calorie chili cheese fries.  And the little container with a slight hint of green inside?  That's the Purell.  Don't go anywhere - especially Coney Island - without it.
